Academic Visit of CUHK Psychiatry Delegation to Shanghai (27–29 May 2026)

From 27 to 29 May 2026, a delegation from the Department of Psychiatry CUHK, conducted a series of academic visits in Shanghai, engaging with leading institutions including Shanghai Mental Health Center, Fudan University, and key adolescent mental health platforms. These visits provided valuable opportunities for academic exchange of a wide spectrum of topics, such as dementia, sleep medicine, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, public health, and adolescent mental health. Through meetings, site visits, and seminars, the delegation fostered meaningful discussion with experts and explored opportunities for interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaboration.

Visits to Shanghai Mental Health Center

We were delighted to visit Shanghai Mental Health Center for academic exchanges on ageing, dementia, mental health, artificial intelligence, sleep medicine, and clinical translation.

On 27 May 2026, Professor Linda Lam and her team visited the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry at Shanghai Mental Health Center, where they met with Professor Shifu Xiao, Professor Ling Yue and their colleagues. The exchange focused on geriatric psychiatry, dementia epidemiology, modifiable risk factors, brain ageing, dementia prevention, early detection, and the social and economic burden of dementia.

On 28 May 2026, Professor Yun Kwok Wing and the team visited the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Mental Health Center. The delegation was warmly received by Professor Min Zhao, President of Shanghai Mental Health Center, and colleagues. The teams exchanged insights on geriatric psychiatry, AI and mental health, sleep medicine, neuromodulation, biomarkers, and clinical translation, while exploring opportunities for future collaboration.

 The visit concluded with productive discussions on future collaboration, including multicentre data sharing, young talent development, international research partnerships, and joint studies in dementia, sleep, mental health, and AI-driven psychiatry. We sincerely appreciate colleagues from Shanghai Mental Health Center for their warm hospitality and valuable insights, and look forward to strengthening collaboration.

 

Visits to Fudan University

We were delighted to visit Fudan University in Shanghai for academic exchanges with the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology at Shanghai Medical College, the Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-Inspired Intelligence, and the School of Public Health.

During the visit to the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology, Professor Yun Kwok Wing and academic staffs exchanged views with Professor Zhili Huang and his team on sleep neuroscience, sleep regulation, and related biological mechanisms.

The Department also visited the Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-Inspired Intelligence, where our team met with Professor Jianfeng Feng and his team. The exchange focused on artificial intelligence, brain-inspired intelligence, and neuropsychiatric research.

 Professor Linda Lam and her team also visited the School of Public Health at Fudan University, where they met with Professor Li Luo and his team for an academic exchange on ageing, dementia, public health, healthcare management, and big data-driven proactive health modelling.

 

The visit concluded with productive discussions on future collaboration between CUHK and Fudan University. We sincerely appreciate our collaborators at Fudan University for their warm hospitality and valuable insights, and look forward to strengthening collaboration with Fudan University in mental health, neuroscience, ageing, public health, and AI-driven research.

 

Visit to PuDong new are adolescent mental health education development center

On 28 May 2026, a delegation led by Professor Yun Kwok Wing joined representatives from The Affiliated Brain Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University and the Vanke School of Public Health, Tsinghua University in a visit to the Pudong New Area Adolescent Mental Health Education Development Centre in Shanghai. The visit focused on adolescent mental health education and collaboration between medical and educational sectors.

The delegation toured the Centre’s psychological experience and counselling areas, including zones for self-exploration, psychological empowerment, sleep relaxation, emotional expression and art therapy. They also observed demonstrations of AI-assisted counselling and virtual reality experiences, gaining insights into the Centre’s technology-enabled approach to adolescent mental health support.

A roundtable discussion was held with representatives from Shanghai’s education and mental health sectors. Shanghai representatives shared their experience in cross-sector collaboration, adolescent mental health education, school-based psychological support, psychological curriculum development, student counselling, whole-school mentoring and early identification. The delegation exchanged views on home-school-community collaboration, professional training for teachers, and coordination of regional mental health resources.
